About

The Science On a Sphere® (SOS) program is part of NOAA's Office of Education. The program’s namesake, Science On a Sphere, is a room-sized, global display system that uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data on a six foot diameter sphere, creating a giant animated globe.

The program includes a flat screen version of SOS called SOS Explorer® (SOSx) that is available for PC and mobile devices. The program also maintains the SOS data catalog, which includes a wide variety of Earth system science related datasets, that is the foundation of all these visualization tools.
